Jason Acosta


Jason Acosta is a proud native of the South Bronx and a product of NYC public schools. Guided by the question, “who am I?” Jason has dedicated his social work career to dismantling oppressive systems in an effort to create equitable spaces for people of color. Jason leads by utilizing a systemic lens to empower the community and impact urban education while advocating for institutional change.

Jason’s recent leadership experience includes serving as a former founding board member of the Cardinal McCloskey Community Charter School, where one-third of the student population is comprised of children living in foster care. Jason also serves on the Board of Directors for the College Access Consortium of New York (CACNY) as Vice Chair of Advocacy and Policy, a consortium comprised of 300+ organizations working together to remove barriers to college access for NYC students. Coming back to his roots in the Bronx, Jason joined the DreamYard Young Professionals Committee as Vice Chair of Service, an organization in the Bronx that is mission driven by arts and social justice. In his spare time, Jason mentors at Eagle Academy for Young Men in the Bronx where he hopes to empower young people to establish a positive future.

Most recently, Jason launched his own company, We Shift the Culture LLC, a consulting firm that utilizes a social justice framework to create equitable environments across companies and organizations. In addition to his work as an entrepreneur, he is the Co-Founder and Co-Producer of the Live From the Bronx podcast, a podcast that celebrates Bronx creatives and Changemakers.

Lastly, Jason holds both a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Marist College and a Master of Social Work from Fordham University where he specialized in leadership. He has the opportunity to share his expertise in his role as adjunct professor at both Hunter College and Long Island University.
